Phacoemulsification Techniques in Cataract Surgery
Phacoemulsification is a common method used in cataract surgery to remove cloudy eye lenses. The surgeon makes a small incision and uses a tiny ultrasonic device to break up the cloudy lens into even smaller pieces. These pieces are then gently suctioned out of the eye. Once the natural lens is removed, an artificial lens called an intraocular lens (IOL) is implanted to restore clear vision. This technique is minimally invasive, usually quick, and offers a high success rate, leading to improved vision with less discomfort and faster recovery compared to older methods.
