PGC-1 family

The PGC-1 (PPAR gamma coactivator-1) family consists of proteins that help regulate the body’s energy production, especially in cells that require a lot of energy like muscle and brain cells. They work by activating genes involved in creating mitochondria, the "powerhouses" of the cell that generate energy. This family includes PGC-1α and PGC-1β, which adapt the body’s energy use in response to exercise, cold, or fasting. They play a key role in maintaining energy balance, supporting endurance, and protecting against metabolic disorders.
