Peutz-Jeghers Syndrome
Peutz-Jeghers Syndrome is a genetic condition characterized by the development of benign polyps in the gastrointestinal tract and distinctive dark spots on the lips, oral mucosa, fingers, and toes. These polyps can sometimes cause symptoms like abdominal pain or bleeding. Importantly, this syndrome also increases the risk of developing certain types of cancers in the stomach, intestines, pancreas, and other organs. It is inherited in an autosomal dominant manner, meaning a person with the condition has a 50% chance of passing it to their children. Regular medical surveillance is essential for managing potential complications.
