petroleum extraction
Petroleum extraction involves locating underground pools of oil, typically found beneath layers of rock. Geologists and engineers use seismic surveys and other tools to identify promising sites. Once discovered, drilling rigs bore deep into the earth to access the oil, which collects in porous rock formations. As oil is extracted, pressure may be maintained with water or gas injection to increase flow. The raw crude then travels through pipelines to refineries for processing into fuels and products. This process combines advanced technology and careful resource management to efficiently and safely recover petroleum for energy use.
