Petra Nova project

The Petra Nova project was a pioneering carbon capture and storage initiative located near Houston, Texas. It aimed to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from a coal-fired power plant by capturing over 90% of the CO2 produced during electricity generation. This captured CO2 was then used to enhance oil recovery in nearby oil fields, contributing to energy production while addressing climate change. Launched in 2017, Petra Nova was one of the first large-scale projects of its kind to demonstrate the viability of capturing greenhouse gases in an economic and productive manner.
