Peter Fechter

Peter Fechter was an 18-year-old East German who tried to escape from East Berlin to the West in 1962. While attempting to cross the Berlin Wall, he was shot by East German guards and left critically injured in no-man’s land between the barriers. Despite efforts to rescue him, he died from his wounds, becoming a symbol of the brutal division of Berlin during the Cold War. His death highlighted the human cost of the East-West divide and drew international attention to the plight of those seeking freedom from East Germany.
