Peshwa era
The Peshwa era, roughly spanning from the mid-18th to early 19th century, was a significant period in Indian history when the Peshwas served as the prime ministers and de facto leaders of the Maratha Empire in western India. Although the Chhatrapati (king) was the official monarch, the Peshwas held actual political and military power, expanding the empire and influencing regional affairs. This era saw military conquests, administrative reforms, and cultural developments, shaping the future of western India until British dominance gradually reduced the Peshwas' authority in the early 19th century.
