Peshawar Accord

The Peshawar Accord refers to an agreement formed in 1992 among political factions and military leaders in Afghanistan to establish an interim government and outline steps for peace following the fall of the communist regime. It aimed to organize a transition towards a more stable governance structure amid ongoing conflict. The accord sought to promote national unity, organize elections, and create a framework for sharing power among diverse groups. While it marked an important step toward peace, ongoing violence and competing interests meant that full stability remained elusive, and subsequent negotiations and conflicts continued to shape Afghanistan’s political landscape.
