PES
PES, or Pulmonary Embolism Syndrome, refers to a condition where a blood clot blocks one or more arteries in the lungs. This blockage can reduce or stop blood flow, leading to decreased oxygen reaching the body. Symptoms often include sudden shortness of breath, chest pain, and rapid heartbeat. It’s usually caused by blood clots that travel from elsewhere in the body, commonly the legs, a process known as deep vein thrombosis. Recognizing PES quickly is important because it can be life-threatening if not treated promptly, typically with medications to dissolve or prevent further clots.
