Persian Campaign
The Persian Campaign generally refers to military operations in Persia (modern-day Iran) during World War I. It involved Allied forces, primarily the British and Russian armies, attempting to secure oil resources, establish supply routes, and weaken the Ottoman Empire's influence in the region. The campaign was characterized by difficult desert terrain, harsh weather, and complex local politics. Despite some victories, it faced challenges such as stubborn resistance from Ottoman and local troops, logistical difficulties, and disease. The campaign ultimately contributed to the weakening of the Ottoman Empire and increased Western influence in the Middle East.
