Perpetual Motion

Perpetual motion refers to a hypothetical machine that can operate indefinitely without an energy source, continuously performing work. According to the laws of physics, specifically the conservation of energy and the second law of thermodynamics, such a machine is impossible because energy losses (like friction and air resistance) dissipate energy over time, preventing perpetual operation. While the concept is intriguing, all real-world systems require some external energy input to maintain movement, making true perpetual motion unattainable with current understanding of physical laws.
