Permanently Shadowed Regions (PSRs)
Permanently Shadowed Regions (PSRs) are areas on the Moon or other celestial bodies that never receive sunlight because they are permanently blocked by terrain like mountains or crater rims. These regions remain in constant darkness and are incredibly cold. PSRs are significant for science and exploration because they can contain preserved ice and records of the early solar system, making them valuable locations for studying the Moon’s history and for future resource utilization. Their extreme darkness and cold also pose challenges for landing and exploration missions.
