Permanent resident alien

A permanent resident alien is a person who has been granted the right to live and work in a country indefinitely but is not a citizen. In the United States, for example, this status is often obtained through a green card. Permanent residents enjoy many of the same rights as citizens, such as access to education and healthcare, but cannot vote in federal elections. They must renew their status periodically and can eventually apply for citizenship if they meet certain requirements. Permanent residency provides stability and security while maintaining the individual's foreign nationality.
