Permanent Partial Disability

Permanent Partial Disability (PPD) refers to a lasting impairment caused by an injury or illness that reduces a person's ability to perform certain work or activities but does not entirely prevent them from working. It is a long-term, measurable damage—like a paralyzed finger or a weakened back—that impacts specific functions. Workers’ compensation benefits may be provided to compensate for this ongoing impairment, typically based on the severity and the part of the body affected. PPD recognizes that while the individual retains some ability to work, their capacity has been permanently reduced due to the injury.
