Peripheral Arterial Disease

Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) is a condition where the arteries that supply blood to the legs and arms become narrowed or blocked due to buildup of fatty deposits. This reduces blood flow, leading to symptoms like leg pain when walking (claudication), numbness, or weakness. PAD is often a sign of widespread atherosclerosis, increasing risk for heart attack or stroke. Factors like smoking, diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol increase its risk. Treatment focuses on lifestyle changes, medications, and sometimes procedures to improve blood flow and manage symptoms, reducing the risk of serious complications.
