periods
A period, also called menstruation, is a natural part of the female reproductive cycle. Each month, the body prepares for a possible pregnancy by thickening the lining of the uterus. If pregnancy doesn’t occur, hormone levels drop, causing this lining to break down and be shed through the vagina. This shedding, known as a period, typically lasts a few days and involves blood and tissue. It signals that the body is resetting and readying for the next cycle. Periods are a normal, healthy process experienced by many women and individuals with uteruses, marking reproductive health and fertility.
