A periodontal probe is a small, ruler-like tool used by dental professionals to measure the depth of the pockets between your teeth and gums. This helps assess the health of your gums and detect signs of gum disease. The probe is gently inserted into these spaces to measure how deep they are, usually in millimeters. Healthy gums typically have shallow pockets, while deeper ones may indicate gum issues.
