Periapsis

Periapsis is the point in an orbit where a satellite or celestial body is closest to the object it orbits, such as a planet or star. It is a specific moment along the orbit, marking the minimum distance during its path. Understanding periapsis is important in space missions, as it affects communication, fuel efficiency, and planning for scientific observations. The opposite point, called apoapsis, is where the orbiting object is farthest from the center of attraction. These points help describe the shape and characteristics of an elliptical orbit.
