
Pergamum
Pergamum was an ancient Greek city located in Asia Minor (modern-day Turkey), renowned for its impressive library, which was second only to Alexandria’s, and for its advancements in art and architecture. It served as a major cultural and political center during the Hellenistic period, especially under the rule of the Attalid dynasty. The city was also known for the Temple of Trajan and the Altar of Pergamum, significant historical and archaeological sites. Pergamum played a key role in the spread of Greek culture and learning and is referenced in the biblical Book of Revelation as one of the early Christian communities.
