Perfusion defect

A perfusion defect refers to an area of the heart or lungs where blood flow is reduced or blocked. This can happen due to narrowed or blocked arteries, preventing oxygen-rich blood from reaching tissues effectively. In medical imaging, such as a nuclear scan or MRI, a perfusion defect appears as an area that doesn't take up the contrast dye or shows less activity, indicating compromised blood supply. Detecting these defects helps doctors identify areas at risk for damage, guide treatment decisions, and assess how well blood flow is restored after interventions.
