Performative Measurement

Performative measurement refers to a process where the act of measuring or observing an entity actively influences or alters that entity or its behavior. Unlike traditional measurements that passively record a state, performative measurements can create change simply by the act of measurement itself. For example, in social sciences, asking someone questions might influence their responses or behavior. In physics, measuring a particle's position can disturb its momentum. Essentially, performative measurement recognizes that the measurement process is not neutral; it plays an active role in shaping the very phenomenon being observed.
