Pequot
The Pequot are a Native American tribe originally from the coastal region of what is now Connecticut. Historically, they were a powerful tribe known for their engagement in trade and conflicts with European settlers in the 17th century. The Pequot War (1636-1638) marked a significant event where the tribe faced severe losses against English colonies and their allies, leading to a dramatic decline in their population and influence. Today, the Pequot tribe is recognized federally and has established a successful business presence, notably through the Mohegan Sun casino, continuing to preserve their cultural heritage.
