Peptic ulcer

A peptic ulcer is a sore that develops on the lining of the stomach or the upper part of the small intestine. It occurs when the protective mucus layer is damaged, allowing stomach acid to irritate the underlying tissue. Common causes include infection with bacteria called Helicobacter pylori and frequent use of anti-inflammatory medications like aspirin. Symptoms can include burning stomach pain, bloating, and nausea. Treatment often involves medications to reduce stomach acid and antibiotics to treat infections, helping the ulcer heal and preventing complications.
