People's Republic of Bulgaria

The People's Republic of Bulgaria was the official name of Bulgaria when it was a socialist state under communist rule, from 1946 to 1990. During this period, the country was aligned with the Soviet Union, with a government controlled by the Bulgarian Communist Party. It had a planned economy and limited political freedoms. In 1990, Bulgaria transitioned to a democratic system, and the name changed to the Republic of Bulgaria. The period is significant for its political and economic policies shaped by socialist ideas and its role within the Eastern Bloc during the Cold War.
