People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK)
The People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI), also known as the Mujahedin-e Khalq (MEK), is an Iranian political organization founded in the 1960s. Initially opposing the Shah's monarchy, it later opposed the Islamic Republic established after the 1979 revolution. The MEK advocates for democratic reforms and secular governance in Iran. It has a controversial history, including its involvement in violent resistance and its previous designation as a terrorist organization by the U.S. and other nations, although this designation was later revoked. The group maintains a significant following among Iranian exiles and strives for regime change in Iran.
