Penn Center
The Penn Center is a historic site on Saint Helena Island, South Carolina, established in the early 20th century. It was originally developed as an educational and cultural hub by the Sea Islands Committee and the University of Pennsylvania to support the African American community through schools and community programs. Today, it serves as a museum and cultural center that preserves and shares the history of Gullah culture and the island’s African American heritage. It offers visitors insights into the island’s history, the struggles and achievements of its people, and the importance of land and cultural preservation.
