pemphigoid vulgaris

Pemphigoid vulgaris is an autoimmune skin disorder where the immune system mistakenly attacks the layers of skin, causing blisters and sores. It primarily affects older adults and presents as large, tense blisters often found on the skin's surface or mucous membranes, such as the mouth. The condition results from antibodies targeting structures that keep skin layers attached, leading to skin separation and blister formation. While not contagious, pemphigoid vulgaris can cause discomfort and requires medical treatment to control the immune response and promote healing.
