Pemberton's French Wine Coca
Pemberton's French Wine Coca was an early 19th-century stimulant created by Dr. John Pemberton, combining wine infused with coca leaf extract and other ingredients. It was marketed as a medicinal tonic to boost energy and relieve ailments. The coca leaf provided mild stimulant effects, similar to caffeine, while the wine offered relaxation. Due to alcohol restrictions in Atlanta, Pemberton later reformulated it into Coca-Cola, removing the alcohol and coca content. The original formula reflects the era's use of coca and alcohol for health and vitality, predating modern regulations on controlled substances.
