PEM electrolyzer (Proton Exchange Membrane electrolyzer)
A PEM electrolyzer is a device that produces hydrogen gas from water using electricity. It has a special membrane (the proton exchange membrane) that allows protons (hydrogen ions) to pass through while blocking gases. When electric current is applied, water splits into hydrogen and oxygen; hydrogen moves through the membrane to be collected, and oxygen is released as a byproduct. This technology is efficient, responds quickly to changes in power, and is often used for clean hydrogen production, especially when powered by renewable energy sources.
