Peircean Sign
A Peircean sign is a way to understand how meaning is created through three interconnected parts: the *representamen* (the sign itself or the signifier), the *interpretant* (the meaning or understanding) and the *object* (what the sign refers to). Essentially, a sign points to something (the object), and this connection is interpreted by a person, resulting in a mental understanding. The relationship among these elements explains how language, symbols, and signs produce meaning in communication and thought. Charles Peirce’s model emphasizes that signs are part of a dynamic process involving reference, interpretation, and context.
