Pedicled Flap

A pedicled flap is a surgical technique used to repair or reconstruct tissue, where a section of skin, muscle, or other tissue is moved from one part of the body to another. The key feature is that the tissue remains connected to its original blood supply via a base, called the pedicle. This connection ensures the tissue continues to receive blood and nutrients during and after the transfer, promoting healing and reducing the risk of tissue death. Pedicled flaps are often used for wound coverage or reconstructive procedures when local tissue is needed but cannot be directly moved or grafted.
