Pediatric Vesicoureteral Reflux
Pediatric vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) is a condition where urine flows backward from the bladder into the kidneys instead of just exiting the body. This can happen when the valve-like mechanism between the bladder and ureters (the tubes that connect the bladder to the kidneys) does not work properly. VUR may lead to urinary infections and, if severe, can affect kidney function over time. It is often diagnosed in children, and treatment options vary from observation to medication or surgery, depending on the severity and associated complications. Early detection is important to prevent potential kidney damage.
