A pediatric sleep study, also called a polysomnography, is a test that evaluates a child's sleep patterns and quality. During the study, sensors are placed on the child's body to monitor brain activity, eye movements, breathing, heart rate, oxygen levels, and muscle activity while they sleep overnight in a specialized facility. This information helps doctors diagnose sleep disorders such as sleep apnea, restless leg syndrome, or other breathing or movement issues that may affect a child's health, growth, and daytime functioning. The goal is to identify problems accurately and develop effective treatment plans.
