Pediatric Retinoblastoma
Pediatric retinoblastoma is a type of eye cancer that primarily affects young children, typically under the age of five. It begins in the retina, the light-sensitive layer of tissue at the back of the eye. This cancer can cause symptoms such as a white reflection in the pupil (often described as "cat's eye"), crossed eyes, or vision problems. Retinoblastoma may occur in one or both eyes and can be hereditary. Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial, which may include therapies like chemotherapy, radiation, or surgery to remove the affected eye. Most children can survive and thrive with appropriate care.
