Pediatric Renal Transplantation
Pediatric renal transplantation is a surgical procedure in which a healthy kidney from a donor is placed into a child whose kidneys are not functioning properly, often due to conditions like congenital abnormalities or chronic kidney disease. This procedure aims to restore kidney function, allowing the child to grow and develop more normally. Donors can be living (often a family member) or deceased. Post-transplant, children require careful medical management, including immunosuppressive medications to prevent rejection of the new kidney and regular check-ups to monitor their health and kidney function.
