Pediatric Multiple Sclerosis

Pediatric Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a rare autoimmune disorder that affects children’s central nervous system, which includes the brain and spinal cord. In MS, the immune system mistakenly attacks the protective covering of nerve fibers (myelin), disrupting nerve communication. This can lead to symptoms like weakness, difficulty walking, vision problems, and fatigue. The exact cause is unknown, but both genetic and environmental factors may play a role. Although it’s less common in children than adults, pediatric MS can be managed with treatments that modify the immune response and address symptoms to improve quality of life.
