Pediatric Leukemias

Pediatric leukemias are types of cancer that affect the blood and bone marrow in children. They occur when the body produces an excessive number of immature white blood cells, which do not function properly. This leads to a weakened immune system and can cause symptoms like fatigue, frequent infections, and easy bruising. The two main types are Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) and Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). Treatment typically involves chemotherapy, and in some cases, radiation or stem cell transplants. Early diagnosis and advances in treatment have significantly improved outcomes for children with leukemia.
