Pediatric Hemoglobinopathies
Pediatric hemoglobinopathies are genetic blood disorders affecting the hemoglobin, the protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen throughout the body. Common types include sickle cell anemia and thalassemia. These conditions cause red blood cells to be abnormally shaped or produced in insufficient amounts, leading to problems like anemia, fatigue, and increased risk of infections. They are inherited from parents and can vary in severity. Early diagnosis and treatment, such as medication, blood transfusions, or other therapies, help manage symptoms and improve quality of life for affected children.
