pediatric ECMO

Pediatric ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation) is a medical technique used to support children with severe heart or lung failure when traditional treatments aren’t enough. It works by diverting blood from the child's body into a machine that adds oxygen and removes carbon dioxide, then returns the blood to the body. This process allows the heart and lungs to rest and heal. ECMO is typically used for temporary support during critical illness, giving the child’s own organs time to recover while maintaining vital oxygen levels and circulation.
