Pediatric Ear Infections
Pediatric ear infections, or otitis media, are common in young children due to their shorter and more horizontal eustachian tubes, which connect the middle ear to the throat. This anatomical feature makes it easier for germs to reach the middle ear, leading to infections often caused by viruses or bacteria. Symptoms include ear pain, fever, irritability, and difficulty sleeping. Treatment may involve pain relief, antibiotics if bacterial, and sometimes, the insertion of tubes to help drain fluid. Most children outgrow this susceptibility as their eustachian tubes mature. Regular check-ups can help manage and prevent recurrent infections.
