Pediatric Dialysis Techniques

Pediatric dialysis is a medical treatment used for children with kidney failure. It removes waste and excess fluids from the blood. There are two main techniques: hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis. Hemodialysis involves using a machine to filter the blood outside the body, connecting through a special access point. Peritoneal dialysis uses the lining of the abdomen to filter waste; a fluid is infused into the abdominal cavity and then drained. This treatment helps manage the child’s health until a transplant or recovery is possible, ensuring their body maintains a proper balance of fluids and electrolytes.
