Pedagogy vs. Andragogy

Pedagogy refers to the methods and principles used to teach children, typically involving a teacher-led approach where learners follow a structured curriculum. In contrast, andragogy focuses on adult learning, emphasizing self-direction, experience, and practical application, often with learners taking an active role. While pedagogy assumes learners need guidance and motivation, andragogy recognizes adults as capable of directing their own learning based on real-life needs. Essentially, pedagogy is more teacher-centered for young learners, whereas andragogy is more learner-centered, respecting adults’ autonomy and life experiences as valuable educational resources.
