Peace Policy

The Peace Policy was a government initiative in the 19th century aimed at improving relations between the U.S. government and Native American tribes. Its goal was to promote peaceful interactions, reduce conflicts, and encourage the assimilation of Native peoples into American society through treaties, education, and religion. While intended to create stability, the policy often led to the loss of Native lands and cultures, as treaties were frequently broken and Native communities faced forced assimilation. Overall, it reflects a period of U.S. Native American relations marked by efforts at peaceful engagement, but also by substantial cultural and territorial impacts on Native peoples.
