Peace of Saint-Germain
The Peace of Saint-Germain, signed in 1570, was a treaty that aimed to end religious conflicts in France during the Wars of Religion. It granted limited rights to French Protestants (Huguenots), including the freedom to practice their faith and some political privileges, while maintaining Catholic dominance. The treaty also confirmed certain territorial and political agreements among noble factions, attempting to restore stability and peace to a nation torn by internal strife. Although it temporarily eased tensions, underlying conflicts persisted, leading to further unrest in France.
