PDE5 inhibitors
PDE5 inhibitors are medications that enhance blood flow to specific areas of the body, primarily used to treat erectile dysfunction. They work by blocking an enzyme called phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5), which breaks down a substance called cyclic GMP that helps relax blood vessels. By inhibiting PDE5, these drugs promote better vasodilation (widening of blood vessels), making it easier to achieve and maintain an erection. Common PDE5 inhibitors include sildenafil (Viagra), tadalafil (Cialis), and vardenafil (Levitra). They are effective when taken before sexual activity and require sexual stimulation to work.
