PD-L1 inhibitors

PD-L1 inhibitors are a type of immunotherapy used to treat certain cancers. Normally, cancer cells can hide from the immune system by engaging a protein called PD-L1, which signals immune cells to ignore them. PD-L1 inhibitors block this interaction, effectively lifting the “brake” and enabling the immune system, particularly T-cells, to recognize and attack cancer cells more effectively. They help the body's natural defenses fight cancer and are commonly used in cancers like lung, bladder, and melanoma. These treatments can improve outcomes, though they may also cause immune-related side effects.
