PCR Tests

PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) tests detect the presence of specific genetic material from a virus, such as SARS-CoV-2. The process involves collecting a sample, usually via a nasal or throat swab, and then copying tiny segments of viral RNA using special chemicals and temperature changes. This amplification allows scientists to identify even small amounts of the virus in the sample. PCR tests are highly accurate and sensitive, making them a standard method for diagnosing infections. They provide important information for controlling the spread by confirming whether someone is currently infected.
