PCR Test

A PCR test (Polymerase Chain Reaction) detects the presence of specific genetic material from a virus, such as SARS-CoV-2. It works by taking a sample, like nasal mucus, and extracting any viral RNA. The test then amplifies this genetic material through a process of copying it many times, making it easier to detect if the virus is present. If the virus’s genetic material is found in the sample, the test is positive, indicating an infection. PCR tests are highly accurate and are widely used for diagnosing viral infections, including COVID-19.
