PCOS
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common hormonal disorder affecting women of reproductive age. It involves an imbalance of hormones that can disrupt ovulation, leading to irregular or skipped periods. Women with PCOS may also have elevated levels of androgens (male hormones), which can cause symptoms like excess facial or body hair, acne, and hair thinning. Additionally, many women with PCOS develop small cysts on their ovaries, though this is not always the case. PCOS is associated with insulin resistance, increasing the risk of type 2 diabetes and other health issues. Proper diagnosis and management can help control symptoms and reduce risks.
