PCI coal (pulverized coal injection)

Pulverized Coal Injection (PCI) is a process used in steelmaking where finely ground coal is blown into a blast furnace. This coal replaces part of the coke, which is traditionally used as a fuel and reducing agent. By injecting pulverized coal, steel production becomes more cost-effective and environmentally friendlier, as coal is cheaper and produces fewer emissions than coke. The coal burns within the furnace, providing energy to melt the metal and helping extract impurities, improving efficiency while reducing reliance on expensive coke.
